HP Color Laser Printer Maintenance

Since color laser printers use four different color toners that are not in a sealed unit, they need to be cleaned on a regular basis. The best method of cleaning is to use a toner vacuum. If one is not available a lint free cloth dampened in water can be used. Clean the toner hopper area, laser optics glass, drum corona wire and transfer corona wire, paper pickup rollers and sep. Do Not use compressed air to blow out the toner. You don't want to breath the toner dust, or clog the sensors causing more problems.

Full details for cleaning are available in the service manual or may be available on line through HP

Calibartion Process

Uses a density sensor to measure toner density on the transfer drum. Basically prints serires of boxes in each color and then black. The dc controller checks the readings for each, cleans the drum and reprints the boxes then checks if readings are within tolerance. If they are not you may get the "Clean density senor" . If cleaning the sensor does not help, print a configuration page to try to isolate to the defective color. Check the error log on the configuartion page
